STORY: "JACK AND THE BEANSTALK"
- TEXT LEVEL WORK
- Listen and respond appropiately giving easy explanations about the story.
- Make contributions when talking about the plot and the solution of the story and take turns in discussion.
- Create word banks related to the story.
- Make glossary cards with the main verbs.
- Begin to create short dialogue.
- Recognise how dialogue is presented in stories eg. through exclamations, using speech marks and indicating who is talking using "said".
- Be aware of different voices in stories using dramatised readings, showing differences between the narrator and different characters.
- Present drama to others.
- Investigate and collect sentences/phrases for story openings and endings and use them to retell the story.

- SENTENCE LEVEL WORK: Grammatical awareness:
- Identify the story verbs and use them when talking and writing.
- Use present tense (to be and to have) in context: to describe the characters.
- Distinguish between present and past tense.
- Use present tense for dialogue.
- Recognise that past tense is used for narration.
- Extend knowledge of adjectives in order to describe characters.
- Use the terms singular and plural appropiately.
- Use speech marks correctly in writing.
- Use the term comma appropiately in relation to reading.
- Use prepositions of place when retelling the story.
- SENTENCE LEVEL WORK: Grammatical awareness:
- WORD LEVEL WORK: (PHONICS)
- Use spelling strategies: practise new spellings by "look, say, cover, write, check" strategy.
- Use the apostrophe to spell shortened forms of words eg. isn't, aren't, can't.
- Collect new words from readings and topics and categorise them using personal dictionaries or glossaries.
- Investigate common vocabulary for introducing and concluding dialogue eg. said, exclaimed, answered. Collect examples from reading.
2nd Term

- Work in groups to write the script.

- Compare literature of the same genre. (Fantasy/Magic).
- Identify the characters of the story. (speaking)
- Describe the characters using adjectives and verbs to have/to be. (Produce character profiles)
- Identify the main parts of the story (beginning, middle, resolution).
- Use language of time to sequence events in the story (oral/written).
- Change the ending of the story.
- To act out the play.
- Give an opinion about the book.
SENTENCE LEVEL WORK
- Revise direct speech.
- Reading: read with intonation and pauses at the end of sentences.
- Explore the function of verbs: the past for stories.
- The use of adjectives for description.
- Experiment using different adjectives in the story.
- Introducing synonyms/opposites.
- Revise terms singular and plural.
- Transfer sentences from singular to plural and viceversa.
- Identify linking and time words.
WORD LEVEL WORK
- To use key words: sequence words, verbs, adjectives, nouns.
- Learn new spelling words with "look, say, cover, write, check" strategy.
- Make own glossaries to learn the words.
3rd Term
EARTH DAY
- Read and understand environment poems.
- Identify the 4 issues cause environment problems: pollution/contamination; overfishing; global warming;
- Explore the key words in environment poems: nouns, adjectives and verbs.
- Identify possible solutions for environment problems.
- Experimenting using different verbs to create the poem.
- Work collaboratively creating the environment poem.
- Follow a writing frame to produce the poems.
- Produce environment signs for the school to display.
- Talk about how to be friendly earth day.
